ESSAYS

IE MBA Essay Topic Analysis:

The IE Business School MBA essay asks applicants to share something about themselves that is not in their resume or application. Applicants can choose to submit a video, PowerPoint presentation, or written essay. The essay should be between 250 and 650 words.

The essay should be an opportunity for applicants to showcase their unique attributes and personality. Applicants should think about what new and important information they can share with the admissions committee. They should also consider how they can translate this information into words and/or images.

The video and PowerPoint options allow applicants to make a vivid impression through visual communication. They also show the admissions committee that the applicant is willing to invest time and effort into the application process. Applicants whose leisure activities or workplace roles lend themselves well to film or design might do well to consider these options.

However, applicants should not step so far out of their comfort zone that they ultimately don’t make a good impression. Candidates choosing to submit an essay will want to use their words wisely to give the reader a sense of who they are and how they would enhance the IE community.

Here are some tips for writing a strong IE MBA essay:

  • Be honest and authentic. The admissions committee wants to get to know the real you, so don’t be afraid to share your unique story.
  • Be specific. Don’t just tell the admissions committee what you’re passionate about; show them by sharing specific examples from your life.
  • Be concise. The essay should be between 250 and 650 words, so make sure every word counts.
  • Proofread carefully. Typos and grammatical errors will make you look unprofessional.

Letter of recommendation questions

The IE Business School recommendation is a short online questionnaire that is sent to the recommender. Two recommendations are required and cannot be friends or family. The questions are as follows:

  • Recommender information:
    • Are you an IE alum?
    • Are you an employee or self-employed worker?
    • Company and industry?
  • Candidate information:
    • How long have you known the applicant?
    • What was your relationship with the applicant?
  • In three words how would you describe the candidate?
  • From a professional perspective, what stands out about the candidate? (Max 500 characters)
  • In your opinion, how would the candidate benefit from the program? (Max 500 characters)
  • Additional comments about the candidate (Max 500 characters)

The recommender should answer these questions honestly and thoughtfully. They should focus on the applicant’s professional qualities and how they would benefit from the IE MBA program. The recommender should also provide specific examples to support their claims.

Here are some tips for writing a strong recommendation letter:

  • Be specific. Don’t just say that the applicant is a “good worker” or a “great leader.” Give specific examples of their work ethic, leadership skills, and other qualities.
  • Be concise. The letter should be no more than two pages long.
  • Proofread carefully. Typos and grammatical errors will make the letter look unprofessional.
