The NYU Stern MBA recommendation questions for the 2023-2024 admissions season are as follows:

  • Section 1: Applicant and Recommender Information
    • Is the applicant currently employed by your organization?
    • Are you an alumna/alumnus of the NYU Stern School of Business?
  • Section 2: EQ Endorsement
    • Recommenders are given 10 characteristics to rate the applicant:
      • Analytical/Quantitative Ability
      • Oral Communication Skills
      • Written Communication Skills
      • Initiative
      • Integrity
      • Leadership
      • Maturity
      • Teamwork
      • Professionalism
      • Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
    • Recommenders are asked to rate the applicant on each of those characteristics in relation to his or her peers.
    • Recommenders are also asked to mark their overall recommendation regarding the applicant’s admission to NYU Stern.
  • Section 3: Written Endorsement
    • Recommenders are asked to provide a brief description of their interaction with the applicant and, if applicable, the applicant’s role in their organization.
    • Recommenders are also asked to compare the applicant’s performance to that of other well-qualified individuals in similar roles and provide specific examples of the applicant’s strengths.
    • Recommenders are also asked to describe the most important piece of constructive feedback they have given the applicant and how the applicant responded.
    • Finally, recommenders are asked to provide one specific and compelling example to demonstrate the applicant’s emotional intelligence.
    • Recommenders are also welcome to provide any other information they believe would be helpful to the admissions committee.

Here are some key points to keep in mind when writing a recommendation letter for NYU Stern:

  • Focus on the applicant’s emotional intelligence (EQ) skills. NYU Stern values applicants who have both intellectual and interpersonal strengths.
